For being so small, babies sure can make big messes! Not only are they constantly in motion, but some babies are also heavy droolers! In order to keep baby dry it’s important to find the best baby bibs for drooling that work for your baby.

Before I had my third baby I had no clue how much a baby could drool. My first two kids weren’t droolers. They did drool when teething, but it wasn’t enough that I had to think about buying bibs for them.

Then, my third baby came along and I discovered how much a baby could actually drool. And believe me, it was a lot!

That’s when I started testing out different bibs to find out what worked best for my little guy. My bib of choice was the bandana bib because I loved the style, the absorbency, and the adjustable snap closure.

What to Look for In a Baby Bib

There are three important things you need to look for when purchasing bibs for your heavy drooler. They are the material they are made from, the size, and the closure style.

Something else that was important to me when I was choosing which ones to buy, was how many bibs came in the package. If you have a heavy drooler, you are going to need a lot of bibs, so that can get pricey. I stuck with buying bibs that came at a minimum as a set of 4.

Remember, even the most absorbent bib will need to be changed every 2-3 hours. It may not leak through on to baby’s chest, but the top will still be very wet and you don’t want that rubbing on baby’s face and neck because it will be uncomfortable and can cause a rash.

MATERIAL

Bibs come in a variety of different materials, but when looking for a heavy drooler, there are specific fabrics you should be on the lookout for. The purpose of the drooling bib is absorbency, so it is important to look for materials that will keep your baby dry and comfortable at the same time.

Soft and absorbent materials that make the best drool bibs are: 100% cotton, muslin, and knit terry. These materials will be soft on baby’s sensitive skin and combined with a soft backing like polyester fleece, the bib will be highly absorbent.

SIZE

The next important thing to consider when looking for drool bibs is the size of the bib. Because this bib is specifically for drool, it does not need to cover as much space as a feeding bib does.

Look for a bib that will be snug around the baby’s neck and also cover a good amount of area under the neck and on the upper chest.

CLOSURE

The last thing to look for is the type of closure the bib has. Different closures for bibs include pull-on/off, hook & loop (velcro), and snaps. If your baby likes to rip anything off that you put over his head, the pull-on and velcro bibs will most likely not work for you.

The snap closures are great because they are harder for babies to pull off. Also, many bibs come with an adjustable snap closure, which makes it so that the bib will grow with your baby and provide a comfortable fit. And that means you don’t have to buy more when baby outgrows the first snap.

How Many Bibs Does a Drooling Baby Need?

This answer will really be based on your personal preference, but I recommend at a bare minimum, having 10 bibs. But for a heavy drooler, realistically, I would have at least 20 on hand. They need to be changed every 2-3 hours and unless you want to wash them every single day, you will need a lot. Fortunately, many of the sets on this list come with at least 10, so you can keep the cost down.

LIST OF THE BEST BABY BIBS FOR DROOLING

In order to combat drool, I recommend investing in some quality bibs that can stand up to even the biggest drooling sessions. Look for bibs made from durable materials like cotton or terry, and make sure to find options with an adjustable neckband so that you can get a nice snug fit that will grow with the baby.

A good set of bibs will help keep your little ones clean and dry and rash-free as they grow. All of the dribble bibs listed below come in different options of prints and colors, so whether you are looking for a baby boy or a baby girl, we’ve got you covered.

Top Feeding-Time Bibs

For drooling babies, cotton bibs are usually the better option compared to silicone or plastic bibs. Plastic and silicone bibs can be stiff and uncomfortable for your little one, and their material may not absorb as much moisture as cloth or cotton.

Once your baby is eating solid food, you are going to want a mealtime bib. For eating solids, plastic or silicone bibs are more practical as they can often be wiped clean faster than washable ones.

So, while this post originally started out for the best bibs for heavy droolers, I did want to share a few bibs that I highly recommend for feeding time.

Healthy Happy Parent Silicone Baby Bibs – Mealtime is messy with little ones! And it often takes just as much time to clean up as it did to cook the food in the first place. That’s why I love these silicone bibs! They can be easily washed off in the sink OR you can even put these in the top rack of your dishwasher. The silicone pocket will catch any food spills which makes for a cleaner baby!

Next, these are made with food-grade silicone making them waterproof and stain resistant. And, the best part of these bibs? They have a lifetime warranty.

Twinkle Twinkle Sleeved Bibs – These waterproof bibs are crafted from 100% recycled polyester with a special water-resistant back coating. Soft and lightweight, the long-sleeved bib provides awesome protection against spills and messes at meal times. Plus, it comes with an integrated pocket designed to catch food crumbs – perfect for messy eaters!
